At R&G Bio, we manufacture disposable tattoo needle cartridges for tattoo shops, distributors, and permanent makeup artists around the world.

Our Bugpin RL line uses slimmer needles than standard cartridges. The result is a lighter, more precise feel that a lot of artists prefer for fine lines and detailed work. Ink flow stays consistent even at the smaller gauge, and the needle doesn’t wobble — so lines come out clean from start to finish.

Every cartridge has a membrane to prevent backflow. Each one is individually sealed and EO gas sterilized, with batch numbers so you can trace every unit. Needles are 316L surgical stainless steel. Housings are medical-grade polymer. We manufacture the whole line in ISO Class 7 cleanrooms, and our quality system is certified to ISO 13485.

This finer structure results in smoother, lighter line work and increased control over detail. With less resistance during penetration, Bugpin RL cartridges provide a softer feel and enable more refined, intricate lines without the heavier visual weight of standard needle diameters.

FAQs

“Bugpin” refers to the diameter of the individual needle wire. The term comes from entomology; these ultra-fine needles were originally used to pin insects for specimen displays. Tattoo artists adopted them because the thinner wire allows detail work that standard needles cannot match.

In our lineup, Bugpin means #10 gauge (0.30 mm) or #08 gauge (0.25 mm) needle wire. Standard needles use #12 gauge (0.35 mm). That 0.05 mm or 0.10 mm difference per needle is what gives Bugpin its signature precision.

Every needle in a Bugpin RL is thinner than its standard counterpart. That changes three things: the line weight is finer, the ink flow is more controlled, and the skin trauma per needle is reduced.

A 5RL Bugpin in #10 (0.30 mm) produces a line that reads closer to a 3RL standard in #12 (0.35 mm). But because there are still five needles in the grouping, the line deposits more evenly and heals more consistently than a true 3RL.

Use Bugpin RL when precision is the priority. Realism and portrait work, fine-line tattoos, detailed geometric patterns, delicate script, micro-details like hair strands or eyelashes.

Bugpin RL also excels in black-and-grey work where you want crisp lines that transition into soft shading. The controlled ink flow lets you build tones gradually without oversaturating.

Skip Bugpin for styles that demand bold, heavy saturation: American Traditional, Neo-Traditional, Tribal, large solid black fills. Standard #12 needles move more ink faster, and those styles need that speed.

Yes, especially with #08 super-bugpin at 0.25 mm. Each needle creates a smaller puncture, which means less tissue disruption per strike. Clients with sensitive or thin skin often heal better with Bugpin.

One caveat: Bugpin needles are thinner, so more of them fit in the same space. A tight Bugpin grouping concentrates more needles in a small area. Excessive pressure or too many passes can still overwork the skin. Light touch, deliberate movement.

Long taper (5.5 mm) is the standard pairing. The combination of thin wire and a long, sharp point creates minimal resistance entering the skin. Cleaner entries, less trauma, lines that heal sharper.

Medium taper (3.5 mm) works if you want slightly more ink per pass with Bugpin diameters. It sits between the precision of long taper and the saturation of short taper.

Bugpin RL comes in #08 (0.25 mm) and #10 (0.30 mm), with counts from 1RL to 14RL. The 3RL and 5RL in #10 are our best-sellers for general fine-line work.
