MEDICAL-GRADE MANUFACTURING

Professional Magnum Tattoo Cartridges for Shading and Color Packing

At R&G Bio, we manufacture disposable tattoo needle cartridges for tattoo shops, distributors, and permanent makeup artists worldwide.

Our magnum line covers both weaved magnum (M1) and curved magnum (RM). The needles sit in two parallel rows. M1s lay down solid, saturated color fast—good for packing large fields, knocking out backgrounds, and traditional black-and-grey shading. RMs have a curved edge that diffuses the ink more evenly, so the blends come out softer. Artists tend to reach for those on curved body parts where skin contour matters, or any piece that needs a smooth gradient without visible edges.
We stock 5M1/RM through 27M1/RM, in #10 (0.30mm) and #12 (0.35mm). Big fills or subtle shading, either way, there’s a configuration that fits.

Every cartridge ships with a membrane to block backflow. Each one is individually packaged and EO gas sterilized, with full batch traceability. Needles are 316L surgical stainless steel, housings are medical-grade polymer, and everything is manufactured in ISO Class 7 cleanrooms under ISO 13485.

We also handle OEM and ODM orders: private labels, custom configurations, MOQ starting at 20,000 units.

Weaved Magnum (M1) — The Industry Workhorse

M1 is the standard magnum most artists learn on. The needles come in two offset rows, staggered like a zipper. That weave lets the ink hit the skin evenly across the full width of the needle group, so you don’t get the gaps or striping that flat shaders leave behind.

The number is the total needle count across both rows. A 7M1 or 9M1 works for general shading. A 15M1 or 27M1 covers big fields, full backs, sleeve backgrounds, anything that needs fast, solid packing. The offset pattern means you can move in any direction. Circles, whip shading, pendulum motion—the edges stay soft and the fill stays even.

Curved Magnum (RM) — Soft Edge & Portrait Precision

Curved Magnums, also called Soft Edge or Round Magnums—arrange the needles in an arch instead of straight rows. That curve follows how skin actually sits on the body, so the edges of a shaded area fade naturally instead of cutting off with a hard line.

The curved layout spreads needle pressure more evenly across convex surfaces. You don’t get those sharp edge lines that straight magnums sometimes leave at the border of a shaded area. Artists tend to grab RMs for photorealistic work, portrait shading, and PMU applications—anywhere the gradient needs to disappear completely and the skin needs to look like skin, not like it was tattooed. Soft powder effects, smooth tone transitions, any piece where a visible needle track would break the realism.

Primary Uses & Applications

Large Area Shading: Background fills, sky, water, smoke, and atmospheric effects in large-scale pieces

Solid Color Packing: Filling bold color areas quickly with maximum saturation per pass — essential for Neo-Traditional and Japanese styles

Traditional Shading: Classic black & grey smooth gradients for Old School, Japanese Irezumi, and tribal work

Black & Grey Shading: Creating deep, saturated dark areas and smooth transitions from black to skin tone

Whip Shading & Pendulum: The weaved pattern excels at circular and oscillating shading techniques

Background Work: Filling large background areas behind main subject matter with consistent, even tone

Primary Uses & Applications

Portrait Realism: Smooth skin tones, subtle shadow transitions, and lifelike texture in photorealistic portraits

Black & Grey Gradients: Ultra-soft transitions from dark to light without visible edge lines — essential for realism and Chicano styles

Delicate PMU Shading: Powder brows, ombre lips, and soft eyeliner gradients where harsh edges are unacceptable

Watercolor Tattoos: Soft, flowing color blends and bleeding effects that mimic watercolor painting techniques

Soft Edge Blending: Blending the edges of colored areas into skin tone without hard borders

Curved Body Areas: Shading on shoulders, knees, elbows, and facial contours where flat needles create uneven pressure

FAQs

Magnum cartridges feature needles arranged in two parallel rows, covering a much wider area per pass than Round Liners (RL) or Round Shaders (RS). This makes them the go-to choice for large area fills, solid color packing, and broad shading where speed and coverage matter most.

>> See Lining vs Shading: Which Cartridge to Choose

  • M1 (Weaved Magnum): Needles sit in two straight, staggered/offset parallel rows (like a zipper). This creates maximum ink saturation with clean, defined edges—ideal for fast coverage and bold fills.
  • RM (Curved Magnum / Soft Edge / Round Magnum): Needles are arranged in a single curved arch. The convex profile follows body contours and creates soft, feathered edges that fade naturally—perfect for realism and smooth gradients.

M1

M1 excels at: large area shading (backgrounds, sky, water, smoke), solid color packing for Neo-Traditional and Japanese styles, traditional black & grey shading, whip shading, pendulum techniques, and any work requiring fast, even coverage.

RM excels at: portrait realism with lifelike skin tones, ultra-soft black & grey gradients (realism and Chicano styles), delicate PMU shading, watercolor tattoos, soft edge blending, and shading on curved body contours where flat needles create uneven pressure.

Needles are 316L surgical-grade stainless steel, housed in medical-grade polymer casings. All manufacturing takes place in ISO Class 7 cleanrooms under ISO 13485 quality management standards.

Each cartridge undergoes individual EO (Ethylene Oxide) gas sterilization and is packaged in its own blister pack. Full batch traceability is standard, so every unit can be tracked back to its production batch.

Each cartridge includes a patented anti-backflow membrane that prevents ink or bodily fluids from flowing back into the tattoo machine, protecting both artist and client.
