Magnum Tattoo Cartridges for Shading & Color Packing

R&G Bio manufactures magnum tattoo cartridges for tattoo shops, distributors and permanent makeup artists worldwide — covering both weaved magnum (M1) and curved magnum (RM).

The needles sit in two parallel rows. M1s lay down solid, saturated color fast — good for packing large fields — while curved magnums give softer blends. A dependable choice for large-area work, reorder after reorder.

Every cartridge is EO gas sterilized, batch-coded for full traceability, and produced in ISO Class 7 cleanrooms under an ISO 13485 quality system. Review our certifications and compliance documents and see how we manufacture before you place a bulk order.

We support full OEM/ODM programs — housing colors, private labeling and custom packaging built around your brand, with factory-direct MOQs and tiered wholesale pricing.

Built Like a Medical Device, Priced for Wholesale

We control every step in our own factory, from needle grinding to sterile packing. Here is what goes into each turbo round liner cartridge.

01 Level Two-Row Soldering

M1 needles sit in two stacked flat rows, woven so the top row fills the gaps of the bottom row. We machine-solder every grouping and check row levelness — one needle sitting high or low leaves a stripe in every fill.

02 Safety Membrane System

A medical-grade silicone membrane sits inside every cartridge. It keeps needle tension steady through long packing sessions and stops ink and body fluids from flowing back into the grip and machine.

03 Polished 304 Needle Tips

We use Japanese-imported 304 surgical steel with mirror-polished tips. Smooth, sharp points mean clean penetration and less friction in the skin. Each grouping is soldered by machine, so the recessed center is identical across every batch.

04 Medical-Grade Housing

The shell is medical-grade polymer with a clear tip, so artists see the ink channel working while they line. Low-friction inner walls keep the needle stable. The standard fitting works with most rotary machines and cartridge grips.

05 EO Gas Sterilization

Every cartridge is sealed in its own blister pack and sterilized with EO gas. Our sterilization process is validated under ISO 11135, with batch records kept for full traceability.

06 Two-Stage Quality Control

Every unit passes 100% visual inspection on the line. Then 30% of each batch is checked again under 100x microscopy for tip alignment, solder quality, and center-channel depth.

Why Row Levelness Decides the Fill

A magnum fills skin with up to 27 needles at once. If the rows are not perfectly level, some needles go deeper than others on every stroke — and the fill comes out striped, no matter how good the artist’s hand is. That is why our QC checks row levelness under 100x magnification on every batch, and why we machine-solder instead of hand-soldering. A good M1 should pack solid color in fewer passes, with less trauma — box after box, not just in the sample.

Where Turbo Liners Work Best

One job: bold, saturated lines at higher speed. If the style is outline-driven and time matters, this is the needle.

Color Packing

The magnum’s home ground. 9M1 to 15M1 in #12 pack solid, saturated color into medium and large areas in fewer passes.

Black & Grey Coverage

Large black & grey work — sleeves, back pieces — needs wide, even tones. 11M1 to 23M1 in #10 build smooth greys fast without overworking the skin.

Whip & Pepper Shading

Small magnums — 5M1 and 7M1 — are the classic whip shading tool: flicked strokes that build textured, peppery gradients liners cannot make.

Backgrounds & Cover-Ups

Big black backgrounds and cover-up packing are endurance work. The widest magnums — 17M1 to 27M1 — cut session time and skin trauma together.

Small Number, Detail Packing. Big Number, Fast Coverage.

Needle count sets the fill width. Gauge sets how heavy each pass lands. Match both to the area.

Magnum (M1) vs Curved Magnum (CM)

Fill Edges

Defined edge — harder fill borders

Soft edge — fills fade out naturally

Skin Trauma

Low with good technique

Lower — corner needles ride shallower

Ink Saturation

Maximum — packs solid color fast

Slightly softer — favors smooth blends

Best For

Solid color packing, bold fills, backgrounds

Black & grey, portraits, soft gradients

Classic Mistake

Blending soft realism with a flat M1 — edges show

Packing solid traditional color with a CM — takes extra passes

FAQs

Magnum cartridges feature needles arranged in two parallel rows, covering a much wider area per pass than Round Liners (RL) or Round Shaders (RS). This makes them the go-to choice for large area fills, solid color packing, and broad shading where speed and coverage matter most.

>> See Lining vs Shading: Which Cartridge to Choose

  • M1 (Weaved Magnum): Needles sit in two straight, staggered/offset parallel rows (like a zipper). This creates maximum ink saturation with clean, defined edges—ideal for fast coverage and bold fills.
  • RM (Curved Magnum / Soft Edge / Round Magnum): Needles are arranged in a single curved arch. The convex profile follows body contours and creates soft, feathered edges that fade naturally—perfect for realism and smooth gradients.

M1

M1 excels at: large area shading (backgrounds, sky, water, smoke), solid color packing for Neo-Traditional and Japanese styles, traditional black & grey shading, whip shading, pendulum techniques, and any work requiring fast, even coverage.

RM excels at: portrait realism with lifelike skin tones, ultra-soft black & grey gradients (realism and Chicano styles), delicate PMU shading, watercolor tattoos, soft edge blending, and shading on curved body contours where flat needles create uneven pressure.

Needles are 316L surgical-grade stainless steel, housed in medical-grade polymer casings. All manufacturing takes place in ISO Class 7 cleanrooms under ISO 13485 quality management standards.

Each cartridge undergoes individual EO (Ethylene Oxide) gas sterilization and is packaged in its own blister pack. Full batch traceability is standard, so every unit can be tracked back to its production batch.

Each cartridge includes a patented anti-backflow membrane that prevents ink or bodily fluids from flowing back into the tattoo machine, protecting both artist and client.
