Tattoo Cartridges with Membrane for Hygiene and Backflow Prevention

R&G Bio manufactures membrane-equipped tattoo cartridges for distributors, studio chains and private-label brands worldwide. A medical-grade silicone membrane is built into every plunger, sealing the path between the needle and the machine grip — so ink, blood and tissue fluid never reach your customer’s equipment.

For B2B buyers, the membrane is no longer an option — it is the specification studios, health inspectors and regulators expect. Every R&G Bio configuration — round liners, round shaders, magnums, curved magnums, flats and PMU needles — is available membrane-equipped, so your entire cartridge line can standardize on one safety standard.

Every cartridge is EO gas sterilized, batch-coded for full traceability, and produced in ISO Class 7 cleanrooms under an ISO 13485 quality system. Review our certifications and compliance documents and see how we manufacture before you place a bulk order.

We support full OEM/ODM programs — housing colors, private labeling and custom packaging built around your brand, with factory-direct MOQs and tiered wholesale pricing.

Membrane vs. No-Membrane Cartridges

How the Safety Membrane Works

Inside each cartridge, there’s a silicone membrane built into the plunger. The needle moves up and down, the membrane flexes with it, and the seal stays intact the whole time.

That seal splits the cartridge into two sections. The front end is where the needle hits skin and ink lives. The back end connects to your machine grip. If any fluid tries to push back up the tube, the membrane catches it. Your equipment stays clean.

Why Membrane Cartridges Are Essential

Prevents Cross-Contamination: Blocks blood, ink, and tissue fluids from entering the machine grip and contacting subsequent clients

Protects Equipment: Prevents corrosive ink and biological fluids from damaging internal machine components

Reduces Cleaning Time: Machine grips stay cleaner, reducing post-session sterilization workload

Ensures Consistent Performance: Prevents ink buildup that can cause needle sticking or inconsistent flow

Meets Regulatory Standards: Required by health authorities in most jurisdictions for professional tattooing

Client Confidence: Demonstrates commitment to hygiene and safety best practices

Where Membrane Cartridges Work Best

Professional tattoo studio in health-inspected market

Studios in Health-Inspected Markets

Membrane cartridges are the default specification for professional studios across the EU, UK and North America, where hygiene inspection standards make backflow protection non-negotiable.

PMU cosmetic tattoo eyebrow procedure

PMU & Cosmetic Tattoo Work

In permanent makeup, pigment backflow into the grip is a real contamination path. The membrane seal protects both the client and the machine — essential for cosmetic procedures.

Academies & High-Turnover Studios

Where many artists share equipment every day, cross-contamination control must be built into every session. Membrane cartridges make that standard automatic, not optional.

FAQs

A membrane needle cartridge is a tattoo cartridge with a thin medical-grade silicone barrier inside, sitting between the needle and the part that connects to the machine. The membrane does two jobs: it pulls the needle back on every upstroke, and it seals the cartridge so ink, blood, and body fluids cannot travel back into the grip and motor.

See Why Membrane Tattoo Cartridges Matter for Safety ➔

Two functions. First, hygiene: it works as a one-way seal that stops backflow from reaching the machine, which lowers cross-contamination risk between clients. Second, performance: it retracts the needle smoothly and keeps needle tension steady, so ink flow stays consistent through the whole session. A weak or torn membrane causes needle drag, erratic ink flow, and visible ink inside the grip.

For pen-style rotary machines, always choose a membrane: without one, fluids can be drawn straight into the motor housing, contaminating a machine you cannot fully sterilize. Cartridges without a membrane cost less and can still be used on setups where the grip is separate from the motor and fully autoclavable. Most professional studios — and most health departments — now expect membrane cartridges.

Two simple checks. First, after a session, look at the grip: visible ink inside the grip section is the clearest sign of membrane failure. Second, on a new unused cartridge, gently blow through the back end — if air passes through easily, the seal is not tight and the cartridge should not go anywhere near a client. At R&G Bio, every membrane passes a seal check on the line before sterilization.
